Following on from our first set of tips, here's a second set of vacation rental related photography tips, this time considering lighting and point of view.

Lighting
When you take photographs, consider these lighting related issues:
  • If you are marketing a rental in a warm area, then it is best to have external shots that give the feeling that the location is warm and sunny.
  • External photographs taken in the morning or afternoon are usually better than those taken around noon. This is because the shadows that result from having the sun at an angle give the photograph more depth.
  • Internal shots should be well lit. A good flash gun should suffice. Remember that using standard lighting to light the picture will result in a yellow coloration in most cases.

Point of view
In photographs, the shape of a building is easier to see if the camera is aimed at a corner, rather than flat-on. A corner view provides twice as much information in one picture.

Conclusion
Your vacation rental will be easier to market if you have good photographs. Following any of the tips will improve the photographs for your property, but combining tips will yield the best results. For instance, even the best cameras will only produce shots of a certain quality if the lighting is not considered.
