Recent statistics illustrated how the addition of digital photographs improved the chances of selling an item at online auction, and that the better the photograph, the higher the resultant bids for the same item.
At ovrentals.com, we believe the same thing to be true in the vacation rental market. We know for sure that vacation rentals with photographs are viewed far more often than those without.
In part one of our photography tips, we look at equipment and content issues.
Equipment
Digital or normal film? As web based images are normally
reduced in size, with a corresponding loss of detail and quality, we believe that relatively low cost digital cameras can be used to produce acceptable images.
A digital camera can often cost the same as a set of professional photographs, and yet once purchased it can be used again and again to update the photographs as needed.
We do suggest however that any camera has flash capability for inside photography, and also has a relatively wide angle lens. Without a wide angle lens it can be difficult to get good interior photographs.

What do prospective renters come to your vacation rental for? If your photographs feature rooms and views that do not reflect the reasons that people rent your
property then it's likely that you are not playing to your strengths and are not getting as many bookings as you could be.
Consider variety too. Do you need to show 3 photographs of bedrooms, or would it be better to show photographs of different aspects of your vacation rental.
