Texas Vacations

Texas, the Lone Star State, is the second largest state in terms of area behind Alaska and the second largest in terms of population behind California. In addition Texas has the second largest economy of any state in the US following California.

Vacation options are numerous in Texas but no matter where you decide to visit a Texas vacation rental will take care of your accommodation needs. Beach worshippers are well catered for in Texas, as the state has over 600 miles of coastline. Popular coastal areas include Galveston, and Corpus Christi as well as the Padre Island National Seashore. Galveston features four historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to 3 historic landmarks. Galveston Island offers 32 miles of Gulf Coast Beaches. Corpus Christi is nicknamed "the Sparkling City By the Sea" and features the Texas State Aquarium, as well as the USS Lexington Museum.

In contrast to the coastal area is the desert area nicknamed Big bend country around El Paso. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the Big Bend National Park Area where there are numerous recreation opportunities. Sightseers will enjoy desert views punctuated with cactus and mountain peaks.

The city of Austin is the focal point of Hill Country, as well as being the capital of Texas. The Texas State Capitol is a major tourist attraction, and the city also features the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and the Blanton Museum of Art. During the summer months many tourists gather on the Congress Avenue Bridge at sunset to see the local Mexican free tailed bat population emerge from under the bridge. Most of the activity in the Texas wine industry is centered in the hill country around Austin.

The Panhandle Plains region features the cities of Lubbock, Amarillo and Abilene, and some beautiful canyon lands. Amarillo features Palo Duro Canyon, the American Quarter Horse Heritage Center & Museum, the Panhandle Plains Museum, and the Big Texan Opry. Experience the Vanishing Texas River Cruise which spends 2 and a half hours in the Colorado River Canyon passing waterfalls and sheer cliffs during the journey.
