NARIES, or the National Association of Real-Estate Inspection and Evaluation Services, has been training real-estate professionals since 1994.
NARIES’ real-estate inspection certification course includes a course that’s extremely comprehensive - it covers the ethics of the business, sixteen separate areas within home inspection that are taught (NARIES refers to them as modules - 8 home inspections and 12 report writing training modules), and standards of practice. The course also details how to correctly fill out reports. The course comes with a binder of vital information, available separately for $295 USD, as well as a list of other suggested materials. The course comes in three configurations, programs, A, B, and C. A, B, and C are varied and progressively more expensive. NARIES also offers a certification exam.
NARIES is a home-based/correspondence-based program, so it’s flexible, and also covers a wide variety of topics. Be forewarned, though: This site may not be for you if you’re a novice home inspector. Though it’s aimed at the budding inspector, it’s extremely confusing and difficult to both navigate and understand. And, it’s classes are on the pricier side. Another company might be a better choice.
