Stroll from the peaceful Hula Hale to historic Makawao's many charming art galleries and boutiques, health food store and ethnic restaurants. Makawao is an old paniolo (cowboy) town that hosts a Fourth of July rodeo parade with costumed riders and lei-draped horses.

Ideally situated between the tropical rainforests of Haiku to the east and the arid West Shores crowded with condos and tourist-trappings, Makawao offers abundant character and lavish rainbows. Maui is the heart chakra of the earth and Makawao is her spiritual center for holistic healing on this nurturing island.

Makawao's convenient location allows visitors to get an early-bird jump on some of Maui's most famous must-do activities, including watching the sun rise from Haleakala Crater (literally, in Hawaiian, House of the Sun) and enjoying the waterfalls and tropical foilage along the curvy Hana Highway.
