Vacation Rental Description
The apartment is situated between the charm of Montmartre with its cobble-stone streets, pavement cafes and spectacular views over the city and the lively night life of Pigalle, home to the Moulin Rouge.
This is what locals call 'La Republique de Montmartre', a mixture of the Bohemia and the traditional.
General description
The apartment is on the first floor (one above ground) of a turn-of-century Hausmann style building. Facing away from the main street and on to a private courtyard, the atmosphere is calm and quiet. The main rooms have period decorative features such as ceiling roses and elaborate cornices. With oak parquet flooring, the whole apartment is tastefully decorated for a cozy but uncluttered feel.
The apartment measures 35m2 (376 sq foot). All rooms have high ceilings and tall French windows with shutters.
Both its two equal-sized main rooms are spacious and lead off a hallway. With a separate bathroom and WC the apartment is well-equipped to accommodate two couples in privacy and comfort.
The living room has a well-cushioned fabric sofa (which converts into a double bed) and a leather-covered armchair. There is a coffee table holding English and French magazines and a small dining table that can be extended. There are lots of English books in the bookshelf a stereo CD player with an extensive CD collection, cable TV with BBC and CNN channels and also a DVD player so you need never leave the apartment!.
The bedroom has a comfortable wood-framed double bed, plenty of cushions, a dressing table, bedside table and antique wood chest of drawers. The French windows have shutters for total darkness but allow for a refreshing breeze in the summer.
The compact kitchen is well equipped with modern storage units. There is a built-in extractor over the 4-ring gas stove and a microwave combi grill.
The bathroom features a traditional half bath tub with shower above. Although compact it is deep, allowing for a soothing bath should the shower prove too invigorating. There is a separate WC.
Location
The quiet street winds its way gradually up to the Sacre Coeur, which is a 15-20 minutes walk away.
There's a wide variety of restaurants, bars and small boutiques, and, of course, excellent boulangeries for fresh, crusty baguettes in the morning.
The local metro station, Guy Moquet, is on line 13. This offers direct access to the Champs Elysees, Invalides and Montparnasse. Bus 95 right outside the front door takes you to the Grands Magasins (Galleries Lafayette, Printemps), the Opera, Louvre and St Germain des Pres.
Place de Clichy, an important transport hub, is down the road. Just behind the apartment is the Cimetiere de Montmartre where many famous artists, writers and philosophers have their resting place.
