Wood Valley is a lush tropical forest tucked away on the southeast slopes of Mauna Loa on the Big Island in the Kau district of Hawaii. It is a hidden paradise only few will experience. The fertile soils and cool climate nurture an array of exotic plants as well as coffee and macadamia nut farms. There is the sweet smell of ginger in the air and sparkling stars you can almost touch. Here you will find a livable climate with the warm sun and cool mountain air. This is one of Hawaii's best kept secrets. It is truely a special Hawaiian vacation rental and we are glad to share our hidden treasure with you! You are in a world of your own yet close to town and many spectacular sites. Volcano National Park is 20 minutes away. An entrance fee will be charged, but it is good for one week. There you will find a wonderful restaurant, a gallery, winery, and a golf course, besides the interpretive trails that lead your around the crater of Halema'uma'u. The ocean beach parks are 15 minutes from the cottage. Punalu's Black Sand Beach brings many visitors. Sea turtles bask in the sun without a care. Close by there is Punalu'u's Resort with tennis courts and a golf course. The towns of Naalehu and Waiohinu offer grocery stores, a hardware store, and a bakery known for their sweet bread and several tourist sights. Pahala is a few minutes away. There is a hospital, bank, laundry service, post office, and Tex Drive in with their famous malasadas.
