Cosby TN

Cosby, at one time known as the Moonshine Capital of the world, is a small community in Tennessee that acts as one of the gateways to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area was initially settled by Europeans in the 1780s, and at that time skirmishes with the resident Cherokee were common. By the early 1800s, the area was relatively peaceful, although it did suffer from Confederate marauders in the Civil War. After the Civil War, the community benefited from the establishment of nearby railroad stations, and in the 1890s a lumber mill was located in nearby Hartford, also providing some economic benefits.

Now Cosby is home to a good number of antique shops, mountain collectibles and arts and crafts shops. Enter the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for recreation opportunities including walking, fishing, wildlife viewing and car camping. With over 800 miles of maintained trails, the National park has everything from leg stretchers to strenuous hikes. There are also 78 historic structures in the park, ranging from mills and churches to the homes of early settlers.

Cosby is also home to the Cosby Ramp festival, one of the oldest festivals in Tennessee, where you can experience great music and food. The festival happens each May.
