What is RSS?
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a format designed for sharing and publishing headlines and web content.

Why does ovrentals use it?
We have started to publish our special offers and other vacation rental information as an RSS stream because people are receiving so much spam that newsletters and offers delivered in emails are being overlooked.

RSS feeds allow the consumer to determine whether they want to receive data and whether they want to turn it off. Many organizations now publish data in RSS format including Reuters News Agency and Google, so once you have it installed you can use it to receive news headlines and other web content, as well as information from ovrentals.

An example screen shot of the RSS data is shown below:

How do I receive RSS?
You need an RSS reader. There are a number on the market. Some are standalone, some plug into email browsers like Outlook.

Our personal favorite is the freeware RSSreader, available here.

I have installed a reader, now what
Find the RSS feed that you want (indicated by the presence of this icon: ). Click that icon, and the browser will display the RSS document. Go the the Address line (in IE) and copy the URL.

In RSS Reader, click the add button on the menu bar, and paste the URL into the URL entry area shown there. Continue to register the feed and once complete, the RSS reader will show the appropriate data for ovrentals.com.

What happens next
When people make changes to their vacation rentals on ovrentals.com, these changes are converted into RSS data and your RSS client will periodically check for them and pop up alerts for you to see.

Information from ovrentals, delivered directly to you, with no spam.

It was cool, but I don't really want it
Simply remove the ovrentals.com data feed from your machine. Then your RSS client will stop looking for updates.
